There are four meals to be had in New York of which I cannot get enough, of which I can’t stop thinking once the thought of them has first occurred to me. They are (in no particular order):
- The cod and chips from A Salt and Battery
- The Italian Style hero at Lenny’s Gourmet (generally the best sandwiches in New York)
- The cold chicken with sesame noodles at Tang Tang
- The Railroad Fried Rice at Regional Thai Taste
I claim no sophisticated culinary superiority for any of them, and I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that better versions of each could be found elsewhere (especially of the fish and chips, which are hardly native to New York), but they’re my favorites here in New York, and I recommend trying them should you get the opportunity. What are your favorites where you live?
Thanks for letting me know you had a new blog going. I’ve missed you. My favorite meal (at the moment) is a raspberry scone and tall iced latte at my neighborhood coffee shop. Not very exotic, I admit, but I can’t imagine Sunday morning without it.

Food I miss eating in Missoula, MT: Pizza Pipeline and Hoagieville. Good, greasy, cheap food.
I’m trying to think of favorite food in Portland, but I never really appreciate these things until they’re taken away from me. But I can say that I can’t turn down a slice of pie from the Lucky Lab up the street from my place, or tater-tots at any McMenamin’s pub. Good, greasy, and-not-quite-cheap food.
